Karl Görge
Karl Görge , also Karl Görge-Prochaska (born October 29, 1872 in Karolinenthal , Prague , Austria-Hungary ; † May 20, 1933 ) was a German painter , film architect and interior designer .
Life
Görge attended German and Bohemian elementary schools before moving to the Rudolfinum in Prague . At the Deutsches Landestheater he was trained as a theater painter under Angelo Neumann . Soon after, he began to paint stage sets and perform as an actor in small roles. Görge worked as stage manager in the theaters of Wiener Neustadt and Bistritz . In 1890 he arrived in Berlin . There he began to paint stage sets at the Royal Opera House. Later Karl Görge became a sought-after set designer for the leading stages in Berlin and, as a set designer, also designed a number of Max Reinhardt's productions , including Salome and A Midsummer Night's Dream . Guest appearances again took him to Bohemia , England and the United States .
With film since 1919, Karl Görge was a very busy film architect throughout the 1920s. The man from Prague designed his most famous sets for leading productions by Paul Leni and Karl Grune . Towards the end of the same decade, he also created the decorations for some sensational films with Eddie Polo . With the dawn of the sound film age, Görge left the industry again. Karl Görge also worked as an interior designer and designed the rooms and conversions of theaters and restaurants.
