The men's triple jump at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held on August 4 and 6, 2001 in the Commonwealth Stadium in the Canadian city of Edmonton .
For the second time world champion by 1995 was British Olympic champion in 2000 , Olympic silver medalist from 1996 , Vice World Champion in 1997 , two-time World Cup -Third ( 1993 / 1999 ), reigning European champion and world record holder Jonathan Edwards .
The Swede Christian Olsson took second place .
Bronze went to the Russian Igor Spassowchodski .

The British world champion Jonathan Edwards set a new world high of the year in the final on August 6 with 17.92 m.
Wind conditions
In the following summary of results, the wind conditions for the individual jumps are named. The permitted limit is two meters per second. With stronger wind support, the distance will be counted for the competition, but will not be included in the lists of records and the best.
There were only two jumps with an impermissible wind support. One of them did not make it into the final ranking because the triple jumper in question had a better result in his series. The other was the best of 16.72 m of eighth-placed Bulgarian Rostislaw Dimitrov .

qualification
August 4, 2001, 4:30 p.m.
27 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 17.10 m. Four athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eight athletes placed next to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.64 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
