The men's 20 km at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held on August 4, 2001 in the streets of the Canadian city of Edmonton .
The Russian walkers won all three medals in this competition . World champion became the owner of the world record Roman Rasskasow . Silver went to the defending champion, Olympic champion in 1996 and reigning European champion Ilya Markov . Viktor Burayev won the bronze medal.
