Nathan Deakes (born August 17, 1977 in Geelong ) is a former Australian walker .

Career

Nathan Deakes was third in the 1996 Junior World Championships in 10,000-meter track walking. In 1998 he was third in the 20 km walk at the Commonwealth Games . At the 1999 World Championships , he finished seventh.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , he finished eighth in the 20 km walk and sixth in the 50 km walk . In 2001 he finished fourth at the World Championships in Edmonton over 20 km and won this distance at the Goodwill Games . He won both distances at the 2002 Commonwealth Games .

At the 2004 Olympic Games , Deakes won bronze over 20 km and was over 50 km together with Robert Korzeniowski at the top, but was disqualified. In 2006 he was able to repeat his double victory from 2002 at the Commonwealth Games.

On December 2, 2006, Nathan Deakes was able to improve Robert Korzeniowski's world record over 50 km by 16 seconds in his hometown of Geelong.

He achieved his greatest success at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . In 3:43:53 h he became world champion on the 50 km course ahead of Frenchman Yohan Diniz . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he came in 22nd. 2013 Deakes ended his sports career.

With a height of 1.83 m, his competition weight was 66 kg.
