Ivano Brugnetti (born September 1, 1976 in Milan ) is an Italian walker and Olympic champion .

Brugnetti first attracted attention at the 1999 World Championships in Seville . There he increased his personal best in the 50 km walk to 3:47:54 h and was initially second behind the Russian German Skurygin . More than two years after the World Championships, the International Athletics Federation ( IAAF) announced in November 2001 that the prohibited substance gonadotropin had been detected in a urine sample taken by the Russian . Skurigin, the gold medal from Seville was revoked and Brugnetti was subsequently declared world champion.

Brugnetti won his second title at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . At temperatures of almost 40 degrees Celsius, he surprisingly prevailed against all competitors in the 20 km walk on August 20, 2004 and relegated the European champion and runner-up world champion Francisco Javier Fernández from Spain to second place.

Ivano Brugnetti is 1.75 m tall and has a competition weight of 62 kg.
