Francisco Javier Fernández
Francisco Javier Fernández , nicknamed Paquillo Fernández , (born March 3, 1977 in Guadix ) is a Spanish walker .
Life
The 1996 junior world champion won bronze in the 20 km walk at the 1998 European Championships . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he was seventh over 20 km, and at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 he won gold over the same distance.
He won the silver medal at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis as well as at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki .
He defended his title at the 2006 European Championships , and again won the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . In 2008 he was seventh at the Olympic Games in Beijing and at the World Championships a year later in Berlin he was eliminated.
In November 2009, the Spanish police broke up a doping ring and found doping substances on Fernández. He made a confession and was banned for two years.
Francisco Javier Fernández is 1.75 m tall and has a competition weight of 65 kg.
