Joel Sánchez (athlete)

Joel Sánchez (born September 15, 1966 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican walker .

He first started on the 20 km route , was disqualified at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1991 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, and came 21st at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

He had more success on the 50 km route . Here he won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg in 1999 and won the bronze medal behind Robert Korzeniowski (POL) and Aigars Fadejevs (LAT) at the 2000 Olympic Games with his personal best of 3:44:36 h .

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, he finished sixth over 20 km. He was trained by Jerzy Hausleber .
