Jerzy Karol Hausleber Roszezewska (born August 1, 1930 in Wilno , Poland ; † March 13, 2014 in Mexico City , Mexico ) was one of the most successful walking trainers in the world as the national trainer of Mexico's walkers , whose athletes won nine medals at the Olympic Games .

Life

Hausleber joined the Polish Home Army at the age of 14 in World War II . He thus opted for the nationality of his mother and against the nationality of the father. He was already in the Polish national team as a walker in 1952 , but it was not until 1954 and 1955 that he won the 10 km and 1955 over 30 km and 1959 over 20 km Polish championships. During his sporting career, he completed a sport degree in Gdansk . At the European Athletics Championships in Stockholm in 1958 , he was 12th over 20 km. In 1959 he ended his active career and qualified as a walking coach.

As part of an exchange program initiated by Tomasz Lempart (the Polish teams were accommodated and fed free of charge at the pre-Olympic Games 1964–1967, Mexico received qualified coaches for pocket money) Hausleber was ready to go to Mexico for 30 months in 1966 - he stayed for the rest of his life, turning a country with no competitive tradition into the leading nation in the Western Hemisphere.

He introduced the training methods of the Eastern Bloc, skillfully used the principles of periodization of athletic training , used the possibilities of altitude training , trained regularly in Toluca de Lerdo (= 2800 m) and carried out training camps on Lake Titicaca (= 3900 m). Its athletes won three gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals in the Olympics. His most successful athletes were: José Pedraza Zúñiga (México 1968), Daniel Bautista Rocha (Montreal 1976), Ernesto Canto , ”El Matemático” (Los Ángeles 1984), Carlos Mercenario (Barcelona 1992), Bernardo Segura (Atlanta 1996), Joel Sánchez Guerrero and Noé Hernández (Sidney 2000).

His walkers set 15 national records over 20 km and 50 km and celebrated 118 victories in major international competitions. The home liver school has established itself in Mexico. Even after his formal resignation in 2005, the successes continued.

In 1993 he was awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle , the highest honor for foreigners, from the President of the Republic of Mexico . Immediately thereafter, he received his naturalization as a Mexican. The auditorium of the Mexican coaching school (Escuela Nacional de Entrenadores Deportivos) was named after him. In 1995 and 2011 he was awarded the National Prize of Sports (Premio Nacional de Deportes de México) , which is associated with prize money of more than EUR 50,000 each.
