LaMark Carter

LaMark Carter (born August 23, 1970 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American triple jumper .

The 1.80 m tall and 75 kg heavy athlete won the American championship in 1998, 1999 and 2001 and was successful at international level with two silver and three bronze medals.

He won his first medal in 1995 at the Universiade in Fukuoka , where a jump over 16.62 m brought him to third place. Two more third places get him at the Goodwill Games 1998 in Uniondale and 2001 in Brisbane with jumps of 17.07 m and 16.83 m respectively.

His best year was 1999. At the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi in 1999 , his width of 16.98 m was only exceeded by Charles Friedek (gold with 17.18 m), and at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , where all three medal winners on distances came over 17 m, he had to admit defeat with 17.09 m only to the Cuban Yoelbi Quesada (gold with 17.19 m).

Without medal success, he stayed at the outdoor world championships. In 1995 in Gothenburg , 1999 in Seville and 2001 in Edmonton , he came in 11th, 6th and 7th.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , he failed with 16.47 in qualification. Four years later in Athens he did not participate after testing positive for the banned substance salbutamol .
