Athletic career

Compaoré, son of a Burkinabe and a French woman, was the first French junior champion in the triple jump in 2004 and achieved numerous other podium finishes in the youth and junior division at national level in the following years. He gained his first international experience at the Junior European Championships 2005 in Kaunas, which he finished in fifth place. At the Junior World Championships in Beijing in 2006 , he won the gold medal with a personal best of 16.61 m. His first appearance at international championships in the active class he completed at the European Indoor Championships 2007 in Birmingham, where he missed the final as 13th of the qualification. In 2008 he cracked the 17-meter mark for the first time in Strasbourg with a jump of 17.05 m.

At the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona Compaoré finished fifth with 16.99 m, and at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu he was eighth with 17.17 m. In 2012 he reached sixth place at both the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul and the Olympic Games in London . At the European Indoor Championships 2013 in Gothenburg, he surprisingly dropped out of the qualification. Due to persistent problems with his left ankle, he ended the season early in July and decided not to take part in the World Championships in Moscow .

Compaoré celebrated its most significant international success to date at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich, when he won the gold medal with a new personal best of 17.46 m. He achieved a further increase to 17.48 m in September when he won the Continental Cup in Marrakech .

At the beginning of February 2015, Compaoré pulled a muscle strain in his left thigh, because of which he had to take a training break of several weeks and forego the planned participation in the European Indoor Championships in Prague . In August he reached the finals at the World Championships in Beijing , but only finished 12th there with a width of 16.63 m.

At the World Indoor Championships in Portland in 2016 , he won the bronze medal behind the Chinese Dong Bin and the German Max Hess with a width of 17.09 m . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he finished tenth with 16.54 m.
