Chandrapur ( Nepali चन्द्रपुर Candrapur ) is a city (municipality) in the Rautahat district in the central Terai of Nepal .
Chandrapur is located 10 km west of the Bagmati River at the foot of the Siwaliks . The Mahendra Rajmarg trunk road , the main west-east road link in Nepal, runs through Chandrapur.
The city of Chandrapur was created in 2014 from the merger of the Village Development Committees Chandranigahapur , Dumariya (Matioun) , Judibela , Paurai and Santpur (Matioun) . The urban area covers 249.9 km².
Residents
At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city of Chandrapur had 72,059 inhabitants (35,885 of whom were male) in 13,445 households. This makes Chandrapur the largest city in the district.
