Valle Rautio

Karl Johan Valdemar "Valle" Rautio (born January 4, 1921 in Vaasa , † September 5, 1973 in Nurmijärvi ) was a Finnish athlete . With a height of 1.82 m, his competition weight was 73 kg.

At the European Championships in Oslo in 1946 , Rautio won the triple jump title with 15.17 meters , he was two centimeters ahead of Bertil Johnsson and 21 centimeters on Arne Åhman , both from Sweden. The 15.17 meters also meant the world best performance of the year in 1946. Arne Åhman won the 1948 Olympic Games in London, Rautio was sixth with 14.70 meters.

At the European Championships in Brussels in 1950 , the Russian Leonid Shcherbakov won gold with 15.39 meters, Rautio received the silver medal for 14.96 meters. In 1952, the Olympic Games took place in Rautio's homeland, but he was not allowed to take part in the final as 23rd in qualification with 14.14 meters.
