Michael Stolle (born December 17, 1974 in Buxtehude ) is a former German pole vaulter . He was a two-time Olympic participant and vice world champion in the hall.

He grew up first in Buxtehude, later in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf. First he trained in the TUS Grünendeich club, in 1988 he joined the LG Düsseldorf after moving to the Lower Rhine region. This was followed by LAV Bayer Uerdingen / Dormagen (1989 to 1991) and, from 1992, TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen (until 2004).

In 1992 Stolle started for the German national team for the first time in an international match in Moscow . A little later he took part in the 1992 Junior World Championships in Seoul . In 1996 Stolle was German champion and ninth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

Especially in the hall, Stolle achieved great success. In 1997, 1998 and 2001 he was German indoor champion, in 1998 he was second at the European Indoor Championships in Valencia with 5.80 m.

At the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville, he was seventh and in the same year winner of the European Cup in Paris. In 2005 he moved to Hamburger SV .

On December 20, 2006, Stolle announced that he would end his career in 2007. He announced that he would start an internship at the Bundeswehr media center in November 2007 and complete preparatory internships beforehand. He wanted to stay connected to the sport, but not work as a trainer. He later implemented this by conducting short TV interviews with the winners at the German Youth and Junior Championships, which are published on the website of the German Athletics Association. In view of Stolle's sporting record, national coach Herbert Czingon said on his departure: "For me Michael Stolle was always one of the great unfinished."
