Jana Thiel

Jana Thiel (born October 17, 1971 in Peitz , Cottbus-Land district , GDR ; † July 11, 2016 in Heidelberg ) was a German sports presenter and journalist .

Life

Thiel grew up in Lower Lusatia . She began her journalistic career in radio at the Cottbus station of Radio DDR II . The transmitter Cottbus was part of the radio station Antenne Brandenburg from 1990 , which from 1991 belonged to the Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) . Jana Thiel worked for this station from 1990 to 2000 as a presenter , reporter and editor in Potsdam . From 1994 to 1996 she was also the presenter of the sports department of ORB television. To round off her education, she studied from 1997 to 2000 at the Free University of Berlin in the Department of Political and Social Sciences the subject of further training for journalists (JWB). In addition, from 1999 to 2002 she presented the sports news on DW-TV , the television station of Deutsche Welle . In 2000 Jana Thiel started as a sports presenter for the ZDF morning magazine in Berlin. In 2004 she switched to the ZDF sports department in Mainz as a presenter and editor .

For her moderation and live reporting at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the Tour de France 2002 , Thiel was nominated for the German Television Award in the category of best sports broadcast in 2002.

Since 2003 she was in a relationship with the pole vaulter Michael Stolle . Thiel died on July 11, 2016 in the Heidelberg University Hospital of complications from breast cancer . She was buried in the south cemetery in Cottbus .
