history

The program was set up in October 1958 as a contrast to the Radio DDR program, which had existed since 1953 and was renamed Radio DDR I , and was also subordinate to the State Committee for Radio . With a few temporary exceptions (e.g. Senftenberg MW filling station), Radio DDR II could only be received via VHF .

Between 5 (. T. z from 4 pm) and 13:00 were regional programs broadcast ( station Rostock , station Schwerin , sender Neubrandenburg , transmitter Potsdam , station Frankfurt (Oder) , transmitter Magdeburg , transmitter hall , station Cottbus , Leipzig Station - in addition from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. -, transmitter Dresden , transmitter Karl-Marx-Stadt , transmitter Weimar / Gera / Suhl), in the last three hours, individual programs were usually interconnected (e.g. Leipzig / Halle / Magdeburg, Dresden /Karl Marx City).

In connection with the collapse of the GDR , Radio DDR II was combined in May 1990 with the program Voice of the GDR, which has been referred to as Germany's channel again since February, to form the new channel DS Kultur , which was incorporated into today's Deutschlandradio on January 1, 1994 .

The VHF frequencies that became available in May 1990 were partly used by new regional programs in the countries still to be founded in October 1990. For example, the antenna Brandenburg station went on air in Brandenburg . In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern launched Radio Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 1 (RMV 1). The holiday wave temporarily broadcast there became RMV 2. In Saxony , Sachsen Radio went on air. Later on, Sachsen Radio 2 and Sachsen Radio 3 started over frequency chains of the other national GDR radio stations (partly in frequency split with the national stations). In Thuringia began Thuringia 1 and in Saxony-Anhalt Radio Saxony-Anhalt .
