Romain Mesnil (born June 13, 1977 in Le Plessis-Bouchard ) is a former French athlete and vice world champion in pole vault in 2009. Mesnil has a competition weight of 79 kg with a height of 1.88 m.

Since 1998, Mesnil has been able to jump at least over 5.71 m every year and is therefore one of the extended world class in pole vault . He showed his best jump in 2003 with 5.95 m. In major international championships, however, he was rarely able to place himself far ahead, mostly he failed in qualifying, as in the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 . His best year was in 2001 when he won bronze at the World Indoor Championships and finished 5th at the World Outdoor Championships . The finals at the 2006 European Championships took place in pouring rain, which the experienced jumpers benefited from. Behind the Israeli Alexander Awerbuch who jumped 5.70 m, Mesnil took second place with a jumped 5.65 m together with the German Tim Lobinger . A year later Mesnil took silver again at the World Championships in Osaka (Japan). Mesnil jumped just like the winner and best of the year Brad Walker (USA) 5.86 m. After Mesnil was eliminated in qualifying at the 2008 Olympic Games, he returned to the medal ranks in 2009. With 5.85 m he finished second behind the Australian Steven Hooker at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin .
