Isireli Naikelekelevesi

Isireli Naikelekelevesi (born December 17, 1976 in Suva ) is a Fijian athlete.

Career

Naikelekelevesi started athletics training at the age of seven.

He represented his country for the first time in 1993 at the South Pacific Mini Games in the 3000 m obstacle course. At the Mini Games 1997 he achieved the bronze medal over this distance and won the 800 m run and the 1500 m run. Naikelekelevesi had his most successful mini games in 2001 when he won the 400, 800 and 1500 meter titles as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2005 he was able to defend his titles over 400 m, 800 m and with the relay, over 1500 m he came second.

Naikelekelevesi took part in the South Pacific Games four times . In 1995 , 1999 and 2003 he won the 800 m and 1500 m respectively; In 2007 he won the silver medal in both disciplines. In 2003 he also won a bronze medal in the 400 m run, and in 2007 he won the Fijian 4 x 400 m relay.

At the Athletics Oceania Championships Naikelekelevesi was successful four times. In each of the 800 m he won gold in 2000 and silver in 2002 and 2006 . Already in 1996 he had been able to win the 5000-meter race.

At the Commonwealth Games 1998 he was eliminated over 800 m with a time of 1: 50.56 minutes in the lead. Four years later he reached the semi-finals, where he was eliminated in a time of 1: 50.00 minutes.

At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , he started in the 800 m run, but did not get beyond his lead with a time of 1: 50.74 min.

Naikelekelevesi took part in the Olympic Games three times . In Atlanta 1996 he was part of the Fijian 4 x 400 m relay, which was eliminated in the advance. In Sydney 2000 he was eliminated in the 800 m with a time of 1: 49.61 min as well as in Athens 2004 , where he needed 1: 49.08 min.

In 2004 he set a Fijian national record over 800 m in Szombathely with 1: 48.70 min, which is still in place today (as of 2013).

In 2011 Naikelekelevesi was stationed in Hameln as a British Army soldier . He started at the German Senior Championships in 2011 in the 3 x 1000 m relay and in the 4 x 400 m relay.
