Morgan Mitchell (born October 3, 1994 in Carlton ) is an Australian sprinter who initially specialized in the 400-meter run and has been starting more than 800 meters since 2019 .

Athletic career

Morgan Mitchell gained her first international experience at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , where she was eliminated in the semifinals over 400 meters with 53.88 seconds and eighth place in the Australian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 38.84 minutes occupied. At the 2014 IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas , she won the B final with a time of 3: 31.01 min. At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow she reached the semifinals over 400 meters, in which she was eliminated in 53.37 s and took fourth place with the Australian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 30.27 minutes. At the IAAF World Relays 2015 she was seventh in 3: 30.03 min. With the relay she also took part in the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in 3: 28.61 minutes in the lead . In 2016, she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the individual competition with 52.68 s in the semi- finals. In addition, she was eighth in the Australian relay in 3: 27.45 minutes .

At the IAAF World Relays 2017 she was fifth in 3: 28.80 s and retired with the relay at the World Championships in London with 3: 28.02 s in the first round , as well as in the individual competition in the 52.22 s not enough for the semi-finals . In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in her native Gold Coast , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 52.65 seconds and finished fifth in the relay in 3: 27.43 minutes. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , she finished fifth in the B final with the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 32.22 minutes. At the Oceania Championships in Townsville , she won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run in 2: 05.02 minutes behind her compatriot Catriona Bisset and New Zealander Angie Petty . In addition, she won in 3: 38.86 min with the Australian relay. In July, she was eighth over 800 meters in 2: 04.19 min at the Summer Universiade in Naples . In addition, she won the bronze medal with the Australian relay in 3: 34.01 minutes behind the Ukraine and Mexico.

In 2014, 2016 and 2017 Mitchell was the Australian champion in the 400-meter run and in 2019 with the 4-by-400-meter relay.
