Sage Watson (born June 20, 1994 in Medicine Hat ) is a Canadian hurdler who has specialized in the 400-meter distance and is used because of her sprint strength in the 4-by-400-meter relay .
Athletic career
Sage Watson gained her first international experience at the World Youth Championships in 2011 near Lille , where she finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 61.04 s. In addition, she won the bronze medal behind Jamaica and the United States in the sprint relay (1000 meters) in 2: 05.72 minutes. The following year she reached the semi-finals at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was eliminated with 58.04 s. In addition, she reached sixth place with the Canadian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 37.84 minutes. In 2013 she won the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellín in 56.81 s in the hurdles and secured the bronze medal in the 400-meter run in 52.68 s and the silver medal in the relay in 3: 41.52 min.
In 2015 she participated in the Pan American Games in Toronto , where she was eliminated in the first round with 58.36 seconds and won the bronze medal behind the teams from the United States and Jamaica with the Canadian relay in 3: 27.74 minutes. At the subsequent World Championships in Beijing , she reached the semifinals , in which she was eliminated with 56.38 s. In addition, she took seventh place with the season in 3: 27.69 min in the final . The following year she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated there with 55.44 s in the semifinals . She also came fourth in the Canadian season in 3: 26.43 min in the final . In 2017 she was sixth in the final at the World Championships in London with 54.92 s . The following year she finished fifth in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in 55.55 s. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she won the gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.16 seconds. With the Canadian 4 x 400 meter relay, she also took silver behind the US team.
In 2011, 2017 and 2019, Watson was the Canadian champion in the 400-meter hurdles. She also secured the title at the NCAA championships in 2017. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in marketing and is currently a student at Florida State University .
