final
August 10, 2017, 9:35 p.m. local time (10:35 p.m. CEST )
The favorites for this race were primarily the 2013 and 2015 world champion Zuzana Hejnová, who also won the 2016 Olympic medal, and the 2016 US Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad. Especially after the impressions from the semi-finals, Ristananna Tracey from Jamaica, the US-American Kori Carter and Léa Sprunger from Switzerland had good prospects for top positions in this competition.
After half of the course, the two Americans Muhammad and Carter led. They came out of the target curve almost evenly. Hejnová was in third place ahead of Tracey. These four runners had a clear lead over their opponents. At the last hurdle, the Olympic champion was just ahead of Carter, while Tracey had caught up with Hejnová. Kori Carter had the greatest stamina in the final meters and won her first world title. Dalilah Muhammad was second. Ristananna Tracey decided the battle for the bronze medal clearly before herself. Defending champion Zuzana Hejnová came out fourth this time without a medal. Léa Sprunger finished fifth ahead of the Canadian Sage Watson and the American Cassandra Tate. The British European Champion from 2014 Eilidh Doyle came in eighth place.
