final

August 12, 2017, 9:30 p.m. local time (10:30 p.m. CEST )

The following line-up changes were made in the final:

  • USA - Tori Bowie ran for Ariana Washington.
  • Jamaica - Simone Facey replaced Christania Williams.
  • Netherlands - Tessa van Schagen ran instead of Madiea Ghafoor.

The two best seasons in recent years from Jamaica and the United States were not as strong as in the successful times. This was especially true in Jamaica as world champions in 2013 and 2015 . Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown were particularly absent here. Tianna Bartoletta and English Gardner were no longer part of the US team as Olympic champions in 2012 and 2016 . Nevertheless, the runners of the USA were favored for this competition, which was already expressed in the run-up. The medal candidates also primarily included Great Britain as European Champion in 2016 and Vice European Champion in 2016 , the Netherlands, European Champion in 2016, Jamaica and Germany with the third fastest lead time.

As had already been announced in the heats, the race remained close until the final runners. At the last change, Jamaica was even slightly ahead, followed by the USA, Germany and Great Britain at very close intervals. The German season had significantly reduced their chances through a first weak change. On the home straight, the British Daryll Neita and the American Tori Bowie fought for the victory, which the 100-meter Olympic champion decided for the US relay. The last change of the Jamaicans, who were still leading after three hundred meters, had the defending champions fall back to fourth. But Sashalee Forbes was strong enough to make up for the small gap to the German Rebekka Haase. Jamaica won bronze behind Great Britain in front of Germany. Switzerland came in fifth, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago. Brazil came in seventh. The Dutch relay never really got into the race and ended up in eighth place.
