Rosângela Cristina Oliveira Santos (born December 20, 1990 in Washington, DC ) is a Brazilian sprinter .

Athletic career

Rosângela Santos gained her first experience at international championships at the South American Youth Championships in Caracas in 2006 . There she won the silver medal over 100 meters and gold with the Brazilian 4 x 100 meter relay and the sprint relay. In 2007 she won the Junior South American Championships in São Paulo with the relay and over 100 meters, and she also won the silver medal in these two disciplines at the Pan American Youth Games. In addition, she won the silver medal over 100 meters at the World Youth Championships in Ostrava . In 2008, she won the bronze medal with the relay at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and just barely missed another medal in fourth place in the individual competition. At the U23 South American Championships in Lima , she won both the individual competition and the relay. As part of the Brazilian relay, she also took part in the Summer Olympics in Beijing , originally finishing fourth . On August 17, 2016, the Russian runners Julija Tschermoschanskaja , Evgenija Polyakowa , Alexandra Fedoriwa and Julija Guschtschina were deprived of the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay because of doping, and Brazil advanced to bronze.

In 2011, she finished fifth over 100 meters at the Universiade in Shenzhen and qualified for the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea . There she reached the semi-finals in the individual competition and finished eighth with the Brazilian sprint relay and was also lined up there by one place after the disqualification of Trinidad and Tobago. That year she also won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara over 100 meters and with the relay, as well as at the Ibero-American Championships 2012 in Barquisimeto . She qualified this time also over 100 meters for the Olympic Games in London and came here to the semifinals and finished with the relay place seven . In 2013 she took part in the relay at the World Championships in Moscow and was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2014 she also won gold with the Brazilian team at the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo.

At the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro , she won over 100 meters. A little later she made it to the semifinals at the Olympic Games over 100 meters and was disqualified with the relay in the preliminary run. In 2017, the Brazilian team made it to the final of the World Relays in the Bahamas , but could not finish their run there. At the South American Championships in Luque , she won with the Brazilian team, but could not finish her finals over 100 and 200 meters or did not start there. At the World Championships in London , she improved the South American record held by Ecuadorian Ángela Tenorio in the semi-finals over 100 meters to 10.91 seconds , making her only the second South American to complete the 100 meter run in under 11 seconds under regular conditions. In the final, she then took seventh place, reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and also took seventh place with the relay .

In 2018 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , but retired there with 7.32 s in the first round. At the beginning of June she finished sixth over 100 meters at the South American Games in Cochabamba in 11.39 seconds before she secured the bronze medal behind her compatriot Vitória Cristina Rosa and the Ecuadorian Tenorio in the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo in 11.44 seconds . In addition, she had to admit defeat only Rosa over 200 meters after 23.92 s and thus won silver. The following year she won the Pan-American Games in Lima with the relay in 43.04 s and qualified again over 100 meters for the World Championships in Doha , but in which she was eliminated with 11.32 s in the preliminary round and with the relay in Preliminary run was disqualified. Then she won the relay at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 43.29 s and secured the silver medal behind the French Carolle Zahi over 100 meters in 11.39 s . In 2020 she won the first-ever indoor South American championships in Cochabamba in 7.34 seconds over 60 meters.

In 2008 and 2012, as well as in 2017 and 2019, Santos was Brazilian champion in the 100-meter run, as well as the 200-meter run in 2012 and in the 4-by-100-meter relay in 2017.
