Janet Amponsah (born April 12, 1993 in Kumasi ) is a Ghanaian sprinter .

Athletic career

Janet Amponsah gained her first international experience at the 2008 African Championships in Addis Ababa , where she finished fifth in the Ghanaian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 42.36 minutes. Then she reached at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune in 24.50 s fourth place in the 200-meter dash . Two years later she was eliminated in the first round of the Junior World Championships in Moncton over 200 meters and then reached the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi over 100 and 200 meters and won with the 4 x 100 meter Season in 45.24 s the silver medal behind the team from England. The following year she took part in the Africa Games in Maputo for the first time and was eliminated there with 24.54 s in the semi-finals. In 2012, she was sixth in the 100-meter run in 11.76 s and fifth in the 200 meters in 23.68 s at the African Championships in Porto-Novo . In addition, she won the silver medal behind Nigeria in 44.35 s with the relay and was eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 41.46 min. In 2015 she won the silver medal behind the Nigerians at the Africa Games in Brazzaville in 43.72 s and was fourth in the 200 meters in 23.49 s. The following year she won the silver medal at the African Championships in Durban in 44.05 s with the relay behind the team from South Africa and finished fifth in the 200 meters in 23.45 s. In addition, she also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in 23.67 s in the preliminary run . Even with the relay she could not qualify for the final in 43.37 s , as well as at the World Championships in London the following year, in which 43.68 s were not enough for the final .
