Bianca Knight (born January 2, 1989 in Ridgeland , Mississippi ) is an American athlete who mainly competes in the 200-meter run . However, she achieved her greatest successes as world and Olympic champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

Career

At the 2005 World Youth Championships in Marrakech , Knight won the 100 meter title and the silver medal over 200 meters. In 2006 she became the US junior champion in the 200-meter run. The following year she successfully defended her title and won the Pan American Junior Championships over the same distance. A student at the University of Texas at Austin , Knight won the 2008 NCAA indoor 200-meter championships. She celebrated victories at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City and at the Bislett Games in Oslo, but could not qualify as fifth in the US eliminations for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing .

In 2009 Knight won the British Grand Prix in Gateshead, finished fifth at the US championships and third at the Athletissima in Lausanne. The following year she was fifth in the 100-meter run at the US Championships. Over 200 meters she achieved numerous top placements at international athletics meetings. Among other things, she repeated her victory in Gateshead.

In 2011 Knight reached fourth place in the 200-meter run at the US Championships. She won three races in the IAAF Diamond League : the British Grand Prix, which has since moved to Birmingham, the London Grand Prix and the Golden Gala in Rome. In addition, she led the victorious US 4 x 100 meter relay around Allyson Felix , Marshevet Myers and Carmelita Jeter in the final as the starting runner at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu .

At the 2012 Olympics , she won the relay gold medal. The Americans set a new world record in the line-up Tianna Madison , Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter with 40.82 seconds and undercut the almost 27-year-old record of the DVfL selection team by 55 hundredths of a second.
