Marion Wagner , married Marion Baumgärtner , (born February 1, 1978 in Mainz ) is a former German sprinter . She took part in four Olympic Games and in 2001 became world champion with the German 4 x 100 meter relay.
Life
Wagner has been with USC Mainz since 1990 . She was very successful at a young age. At the Junior European Championships in 1995 and 1997 she won gold with the German 4 x 100 meter relay and bronze at the Junior World Championships in 1996 . In 1997 she was German youth champion over 100 meters.
In the adult division, she started at the 1999 World Championships in Seville, both individually and with the relay, and reached fifth place with the latter. The following year Wagner took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney for the first time and was sixth with the season.
Wagner achieved her greatest success at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton. The German relay team ( Melanie Paschke , Gabi Rockmeier , Birgit Rockmeier , Marion Wagner) initially took second place behind the US relay team in 42.32 seconds . After the US sprinters Kelli White and Marion Jones were subsequently disqualified for doping, the German relay team was awarded the world title in June 2004.
Over 60 meters, Wagner achieved fifth place at the 2002 European Indoor Championships . This year the European Championships took place outdoors in Munich , where Wagner and the relay team (Melanie Paschke, Gabi Rockmeier, Sina Schielke , Marion Wagner) became vice European champion in 42.54 seconds. A year later at the World Championships , the season was fifth.
In 2004 Wagner took part in the Olympic Games in Athens . In 2005 she won her first national title, she became German indoor champion over 60 meters. At the European Indoor Championships shortly thereafter, she reached sixth place over the same distance. She was able to defend her German championship title a year later.
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Wagner finished fourth with the season. The following year the World Championships were held in Berlin . The German relay team (Marion Wagner, Anne Möllinger , Cathleen Tschirch , Verena Sailer ) won the bronze medal in 42.87 seconds . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she took part again as a substitute runner for the relay. After the games, she ended her competitive sports career.
Marion Wagner trained with Harry Letzelter . She is a bank clerk at Sparkasse Mainz . In 2012 she married.
