Aleen Bailey (born November 25, 1980 in Saint Mary Parish ) is a Jamaican athlete and Olympic champion .

Life

She grew up with four siblings in Baccaswood, St. Mary. Even in elementary school, a teacher - and television pictures of Merlene Ottey's successes - aroused her interest in athletics. Bailey then attended Vere Technical High School before studying sociology at the University of South Carolina . Her half-brother Capleton is a well-known reggae singer.

The sprinter won the bronze medal at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville with the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay . In 2001 she became the Jamaican 100 and 200 meter champion . At the 2003 World Championships in Paris, she was sixth in the 100-meter run.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she won the team gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay along with her teammates Tayna Lawrence , Sherone Simpson and Veronica Campbell . She was fifth in the 100-meter run and fourth in the 200-meter run.

The following year she won the silver medal with the relay at the World Championships in Helsinki and in 2007 at the World Championships in Osaka , she was sixth in the 200-meter run . At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , Bailey finished eighth over 100 meters. With the season in the cast Simone Facey , Shelly-Ann Fraser , Aleen Bailey and Kerron Stewart , she won the world title in 42.06 s.
