Barbara Jones

Barbara Pearl Jones , married Barbara Slater (born March 26, 1937 in Chicago ) is a former American athlete and Olympic champion .

She won her first Olympic gold medal in athletics at the age of 15, making her the youngest ever gold medalist in Olympic athletics. Today she works at the Martin Luther King Center , is a member of the Paralympic Games Committee and the Committee for the Olympic Games Youth Advisory Committee in Atlanta .

At the XV. At the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki she won the team gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race together with her teammates Mae Faggs , Janet Moreau and Catherine Hardy , ahead of the team from Germany (silver) and the team from Great Britain (bronze). At the XVII. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , she confirmed her performance and won the team gold medal again, this time together with Martha Hudson , Lucinda Williams and Wilma Rudolph , ahead of the team from Germany (silver) and the team from Poland .
