Lucinda Williams (athlete)

Lucinda Williams (born August 10, 1937 in Bloomingdale near Savannah , Georgia , after marrying Adams ) is a former American athlete and 1960 Olympic champion .

After graduating from high school in Savannah, she moved to Tennessee State University , where she studied and trained for the next few years.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , she was eliminated in the run over 100 meters . In 1957 and 1959 she was indoor champion of the AAU over 220 yards, in 1958 she also won the open-air title. She won over 200 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay in the first international match between the USA and the Soviet Union, which took place in Moscow in 1958. In 1959 she won both sprint distances and the relay at the Pan American Games in Chicago.

In Rome at the 1960 Olympic Games , she was eliminated in the interim over 200 meters. She won gold with the US 4 x 100 meter relay. The cast Martha Hudson , Lucinda Williams, Barbara Jones and Wilma Rudolph set a new world record with 44.4 seconds. In the final, the season ran 44.5 s and won with three tenths of a second ahead of the German season. The relay came on very well as all sprinters trained at Tennessee State University.

Lucinda Williams was 1.66 m tall and had a competition weight of 51 kg.
