Chryste Dionne Gaines (born September 14, 1970 in Lawton ) is a former American athlete who specializes in the 100-meter run .

In 2001 she won the title at the US 100-meter championship. Internationally, she appeared as the winner of the Pan American Games in 1995 in Mar del Plata over 100 meters and third at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2001 in Lisbon over 60 meters .

However, she celebrated her greatest successes as a member of the US 4 x 100 meter relay . She won the gold medal with the relay at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, as well as two gold medals and one silver medal at the World Athletics Championships.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , she finished third together with Marion Jones , Torri Edwards and Nanceen Perry . In 2007, however, Marion Jones confessed to doping substance abuse and returned her five Olympic medals from Sydney, including the bronze medal from the 4 x 100 meter relay. In the following year, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee decided to also withdraw the medal from their teammates.

As part of the BALCO affair in December 2005, Gaines himself was banned by the USADA for two years retrospectively to June of that year, and all results were canceled from November 2003 onwards. After her suspension expired, she clearly missed qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

Chryste Gaines is 1.70 m tall and had a competition weight of 57 kg.
