Ariana Washington (born August 27, 1996 in Signal Hill ) is an American athlete who specializes in the 100-meter run and the 200-meter run . She became world champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay race with the USA in 2017 .

Career

At the 2013 Youth World Championships in the  RSK Olimpijskyj  in  Donetsk , Ariana Washington won the silver medal in the 100-meter run behind her compatriot Ky Westbrook and in the 200-meter run behind the Swede Irene Ekelund and Ángela Tenorio from Ecuador. A year later she took part in the 2014 Junior World Championships at  Hayward Field  in  Eugene  and won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay in front of Jamaica and Germany.

At the United States Olympic Trials, Ariana Washington finished sixth and fifth in the 100 and 200 meters, respectively, and thus missed qualifying for the Summer Olympics on these routes. But she was selected as a possible starter for the 4-by-100 season, where she did not start.

Ariana Washington took part in the 2017 World Championships at the London Stadium and started in both the 100 meters and the 4 x 400 meters relay. In her run over the 100 meters she qualified for the semifinals, where she was eliminated from the competition. In the 4-by-100-meter relay of the USA, she was used in the run-up and won it together with Morolake Akinosun , Aaliyah Brown and Allyson Felix in the world best time. In the finale, which the US season also won, she was replaced by Tori Bowie .

Washington is engaged to middle-distance runner Clayton Murphy .
