Kelli White (born April 1, 1977 in Oakland , California ) is a former American athlete . She was double world champion in 2003, but shortly afterwards convicted of doping.

Life

White is the daughter of two former sprinters, Willie White and Debbie Byfield . She attended James Logan High School in Union City, California and was a member of the track and field team there. In 1994, at the age of 17, a fellow student attacked her with a knife, after which she had to be stitched with 300 stitches in the face. White continued her season despite all of this. Although she never won a federal championship, she held the top time on the 200 meters and the second-best time on 100 meters in the North Coast Section until graduating in 1995. She received a scholarship from the University of Tennessee , which she graduated from in 1999.

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , White won the 200 meter bronze medal and the gold medal with the American 4 x 100 meter relay . Two years later at the World Championships in Saint-Denis , she won the 100 and 200 meters . The day after the 200-meter victory, the World Athletics Federation ( IAAF) announced that a doping test at Kelli White found the banned drug Modafinil . White initially denied doping, but then admitted to being introduced to the managing director of the Burlingame Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative Victor Conte in 2000 by Remi Korchemny , who was her trainer for a long time . During her interrogation, she admitted to using tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) and erythropoietin (EPO) in conjunction with Modafinil and pleaded guilty to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). On June 18, 2004, both gold medals were withdrawn from her and all of her placements and results since December 15, 2000 were canceled. She received a two-year ban from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (May 17, 2004 to May 16, 2006).

White has since lectured on substance abuse in sports. During her two-year ban, she taught at the track clinics at James Logan High School. In May 2006, she announced her retirement from competitive sports.

Kelli White had a competition weight of 57 kg with a height of 1.63 m.
