Gemma Acheampong (born February 13, 1993 in Waterbury ) is a Ghanaian sprinter who specialized in the 100 meter run .

Athletic career

Gemma Acheampong gained her first international experience at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , where she retired in the 200-meter run with 24.90 s in the lead and was disqualified in the first round with the Ghanaian 4-by-100-meter relay . She then won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Marrakech in 44.06 s with the relay behind Nigeria and the Ivory Coast and took sixth place over 100 meters in 11.74 s. In the individual competition she was disqualified in the semifinals. In 2015 she won the silver medal behind the Nigerians at the African Games in Brazzaville in 43.72 s and was eliminated in the 100-meter run with 11.81 s in the semifinals. The following year she won the silver medal at the African Championships in Durban in 44.05 s with the relay behind the team from South Africa and was sixth in the 100 meters in 11.49 s. In addition, she took part with the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which they could not qualify for the final in 43.37 s , as well as at the World Championships in London the following year, in which 43.68 s not enough for the final . In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she was eliminated with 11.79 s in the semifinals. In addition, she reached fifth place in the Ghanaian 4 x 100 meter relay in 43.64 s.

In 2019 she took part again in the Africa Games in Rabat and was eliminated there over 100 meters with 11.93 s in the semi-finals. In addition, she finished eighth in the Ghanaian 4 x 100 meter relay in 47.24 s.
