Maria Benedicta Chigbolu (born July 27, 1989 in Rome ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run . She achieved her greatest international success as a member of the Italian 4 x 400 meter relay .

Athletic career

In 2013, Chigbolu won the Italian relay at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey, and came second over 400 meters. She was also part of the Italian relay in the run-up to the World Championships in Moscow . The relay reached the finals, but was disqualified there for violating the lane markings. At the European Championships in Zurich in 2014 , she finished seventh with the relay. At the World Championships in Beijing Chigbolu retired both over 400 meters and with the relay in the preliminary round.

At the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam, she won the bronze medal in the relay and reached the semifinals over 400 meters. She secured her starting place in the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . The season reached the finals with the cast of Chigbolu, Maria Enrica Spacca , Ayomide Folorunso and Libania Grenot , where they finished sixth.

At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade 2017 , she barely missed a medal with the Italian relay and finished fourth.
