Maria Enrica Spacca (born March 20, 1986 in L'Aquila ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run . She achieved her greatest international success as a member of the Italian 4 x 400 meter relay .

Athletic career

In 2004 Maria Spacca took part in international competitions for the first time. At the Junior World Championships she was eliminated both over 400 meters and with the relay in the preliminary round, the same as at the Junior European Championships in the following year. In 2009 Spacci was part of the relay for the World Championships in Berlin , which was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2010 she just barely missed a medal at the European Championships as fourth in the relay, as well as at the 2011 European Indoor Athletics Championships . At the World Championships in Daegu , the Italians could not qualify for the final run again.

In 2012 Spacca reached the semifinals at the European Championships in Helsinki over 400 meters and was eliminated from the relay in the preliminary round. She was also part of the season for the Olympic Games , in which the Italians again met the early end. In 2013 she won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin . At the World Championships in Moscow , the relay reached the final, but was disqualified there for violating the lane marking. At the European Championships in Zurich in 2014 , she finished seventh in the relay and failed to make it to the semi-finals in the individual competition.

At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , she won the bronze medal with the relay. She secured her starting place in the relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . The season reached the finals with the cast of Maria Benedicta Chigbolu , Maria Enrica Spacca, Ayomide Folorunso and Libania Grenot , where they finished sixth.

At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade 2017 , she barely missed a medal with the Italian relay and finished fourth.
