Leon Tsoukernik (born November 7, 1973 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Czech entrepreneur , casino owner , poker player and art collector . He is the CEO of the Vestar Group. After many years as CEO of King's Resort , he transferred his position to Michal Hanzík in 2018. Tsoukernik is currently the owner and board member of King's Casino.

Life

Private

Tsoukernik worked as an assistant at an antique dealer in Toronto in 1991 . In 1993 he left Canada to settle in the Czech Republic. Since then he has opened two antique shops in Prague and one in Washington, DC As a specialist in Biedermeier furniture, Tsoukernik founded an international antique shop together with Adam Brown and Andrea Zemalová in 1996. Together they created the Iliad Antik New York in 1999. Tsoukernik is a regular participant in international antique and art fairs , including events in Palm Beach , Dallas , New York and other cities. International celebrities who have used his services as antique dealers include: a. Tom Cruise , Jackie Chan , Madeleine Albright , Václav Havel , Ronald Lauder and Paloma Picasso .

Tsoukernik lives near Rozvadov with his wife and their two children. He is the main sponsor of the Czech ice hockey club HC Plzeň 1929 .

In 2002, Tsoukernik bought a plot of land in the Czech municipality of Rozvadov on the German-Czech border and had the King's Casino built on it. The casino opened on June 26, 2003 and has been strictly poker-oriented since 2009. In 2014 it was the largest poker room in Europe with around 160 poker tables, over 200,000 poker players and more than 15 million euros in tournament prize money. At the European Poker Awards in Malta , Tsoukernik received the award of Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 at the end of March 2015. After negotiations with the management of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), a decision was made in 2015 to host WSOP tournaments at King's. Accordingly, Rozvadov became the venue for circuit tournaments and the World Series of Poker Europe in the period from 2017 to 2021. In its first year, the World Series of Poker Europe 2017 set a new record with over 30,000 poker players. The great success of the premiere in Rozvadov led to the agreement to continue holding the events there annually until 2022. Further collaboration is open to discussion. Previously, the WSOP Europe only took place every two years.

In 2010, Tsoukernik also opened the Hotel King's Admiral in Rozvadov. In 2011 he had a King's Casino built in Prague , and in 2014 the Casino Bellevue in Marienbad .

As a player

Tsoukernik himself has occasionally taken part in renowned live tournaments since 2011 . In mid-May 2011, he finished second at the main event of the Casinos Austria Poker Tour in Innsbruck . In his King's Casino, Tsoukernik achieved a third and a first place at the main event of the European Masters Series of Pot Limit Omaha in autumn 2016 . Mid-December 2016, he won in Prague , the Super High Roller -Event the European Poker Tour and received a prize money of over 740,000 euros. In February 2017, Tsoukernik secured a spot at the Super High Roller Bowl , which was played at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas at the end of May 2017 . The $ 300,000 buy-in tournament was limited to 56 players . There he reached the final table and finished the tournament in fourth place for $ 1.8 million in prize money. In the spring of 2018, Tsoukernik took part in one of the most expensive cash games in Montreal , where he won a record pot against Matthew Kirk . End of July 2018 Tsoukernik expensive bought seven times in the € 25,000 Super High Roller of Poker Championship in Velden and won the tournament with a prize money of 370,000 euros. In mid-October 2019, he won a Short Deck Super High Roller played in his casino with a buy-in of 100,000 euros and secured the main prize of around 1.1 million euros.

Overall, Tsoukernik has earned almost five million dollars with poker in live tournaments, making him the third most successful Czech poker player behind Martin Kabrhel and Martin Staszko . He also played several times on the German poker show German High Roller , which is broadcast on Sport1 .

Controversy

On June 5, 2017, Australian poker pro Matthew Kirk filed a lawsuit against Tsoukernik in the United States. Kirk demands from Tsoukernik the payment of two million US dollars, which Tsoukernik allegedly borrowed from Kirk on May 27, 2017 during a cash game at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The poker pro Elton Tsang also accuses Tsoukernik of not paying him gambling debts of three million euros, which he claims to have won in August 2015 during a cash game in Barcelona .
