The Poker Championship , shortly Poker Championship is a tournament series that once a year by Casinos Austria in Velden is discharged. At the tournaments, the respective European champions are played in different poker variants .

history

The European Poker Championship was played for the first time in 1990 in Baden, Lower Austria, near Vienna . It also took place there in 1991 and consistently from 1995 to 2014. 1992 and 1994 were played in Graz , 1993 in Innsbruck . The European Poker Championship has been held at Casino Velden am Wörthersee since 2015 . At the beginning of the series, only the European champion in Seven Card Stud was played. In 2008 a European Championship in No Limit Hold'em was offered for the first time and Sandra Naujoks was crowned the first female European champion of this variant. In 2010, Pot Limit Omaha replaced the European Championship in Seven Card Stud , which is now being offered again. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no European championship was played for the first time since 1990.

The buy-ins and prize money were converted into euros even before the Austrian schilling was abolished in 2002 .
