Fedor Holz (born July 25, 1993 in Saarbrücken ) is a German entrepreneur and former professional poker player .

During his active poker career, Holz was considered one of the best tournament players in the world. He has earned more than 32.5 million US dollars in live poker tournaments , making him the best German-speaking player and the 8th most successful poker player in terms of tournament prize money . Holz had his first major successes online , winning the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker in 2014 and then being number one in the online poker world rankings for a total of 3 weeks . In 2015 he rose to the top of the live poker world and in 2016 he won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker and jumped to number one in the live poker world rankings , which he held for 30 weeks in a row. Wood is the only player to top the poker world rankings both online and live. As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , he was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Since the end of 2016, wood has primarily appeared as an entrepreneur . In June 2018 he was included in the German 30 Under 30 by Forbes magazine .

childhood and education

Holz and his siblings grew up with his single mother near Saarbrücken . As a child he played chess and qualified for German championships in this sport. In school, skipped wood whose IQ was estimated at 155, a class and made with 17 years on the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Sulzbach his high school . He then began studying media informatics at Saarland University , which he broke off after two semesters. In 2013, Holz moved to a shared apartment in Vienna with fellow poker players . Wood came to poker at the age of 16 through two close friends. Even at the beginning of his poker career, he spent a lot of time exchanging ideas with other players in forums and cited intensity, passion and his network as the keys to his success. The network consists of a. from Steffen Sontheimer , Rainer Kempe and Koray Aldemir , who are now among the most successful German poker players .

On-line

Holz uses the nickname CrownUpGuy on the online poker platform PokerStars and plays as BrickAndCRAI at 888poker and as ineedcrowns at PokerStars.FR . In addition, he plays on partypoker and GGPoker under his real name and also used the name BrickAndCRAI at Full Tilt Poker . At the end of September 2014 , Holz won the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) on PokerStars . For winning the main tournament of the online poker world championship, he received a prize of 1.3 million US dollars due to a deal with five other players  . Mainly because of this performance, Holz was the only German to date to be number one for a week in the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online tournament players in the world, in December 2014 . In March 2015, he took the lead again for 2 weeks. In mid-September 2016, Holz won the Super High Roller Event of the WCOOP 2016 , the most expensive online poker tournament worldwide with a buy-in of 102,000 US dollars so far - together with the Super High Roller Bowl Online at partypoker in June 2020 , second place behind his compatriot Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle and received prize money of over one million US dollars due to a deal. In April 2017, Holz organized the CPT-LA Online , a charity tournament on PokerStars , the proceeds of which went to the foundation “heart to heart”, together with the poker trainer and Team PokerStars Pro Felix “xflixx” Schneiders . The 293 participants generated donations of more than 6400 euros. From September 2017 to 2019, Holz was the advertising medium for the partypoker platform . He has been the brand ambassador for the online poker room GGPoker since May 2020 .

Career

2012–2014: First tournament victories

Holz has been seen at renowned live tournaments since 2012 . On February 10, 2013, he won his first major live tournament on the Lebanese Poker Tour in Cyprus and won a bounty event, i.e. a tournament in which extra prize money is paid out for every player who is eliminated. In mid-February 2013, he made it to the money for the first time at the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) and finished tenth in Vienna for 13,000 euros . In August 2014, Holz won the money five times at the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Barcelona , where he was successful in the main event and the high roller tournament and won an event in the No Limit Hold'em variant . As a result, he won prize money of over 100,000 euros in eleven days.

By the end of 2014, Holz had tournament revenues of just under 350,000 US dollars.

2015: Rise to the top of the world

At the beginning of May 2015, Holz received his two highest live prize money to date at super high roller events of the EPT in Monte-Carlo . He reached two final tables within three days and won around 330,000 euros each. In June 2015 , Holz, who at that time was now at least 21 years of age, was allowed to take part in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the first time and won four money. In the No Limit Hold'em Six Handed Championship , he finished third behind Doug Polk and Byron Kaverman for just under 270,000 US dollars. In the main event , Holz reached the seventh day of the tournament and was eliminated there as the fourth-best German in 25th place from the original 6420 players. That achievement earned him an additional $ 260,000. He also reached a final table at the WSOP Europe , which was held in Berlin in October 2015, and made it to the money twice. In mid-December 2015, Holz won the WPT Alpha8 event at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas with a prize of around $ 1.5 million.

In total, he secured just under 3.5 million US dollars in tournament prize money in 2015. In the ranking of the Global Poker Index Player of the Year , Holz came fifth as the best non-American. In May 2016 he was named Europe's Player of the Year 2015 at the European Poker Awards in Monte-Carlo.

At the beginning of January 2016, Holz won the WPT National Super High Roller Event in Parañaque in the Philippines , securing a prize of more than 3 million US dollars. He also reached the final table at the A $ 100,000 Challenge of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne and finished the tournament in sixth place for the equivalent of nearly 200,000 US dollars. At the beginning of June 2016, Holz took second place behind his compatriot Rainer Kempe at the Super High Roller Bowl in the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the second most expensive poker tournament in 2016, for prize money of 3.5 million US dollars and won the same place in the the following 2 weeks, the Aria High Roller three times for prize money of more than one million US dollars. In July 2016 , Holz won the High Roller for One Drop , the most expensive event of the 2016 WSOP with a buy-in of US $ 111,111 . For this he prevailed against a field of 182 players and received a bracelet and his highest prize money to date of just under 5 million US dollars. After this success, he jokingly stated in an interview that he would end his career as a professional poker player in order to take part in the Big One for One Drop Extravaganza with a buy-in of one million euros, which is only accessible to amateur players . In fact, Holz then played a much shorter game of poker and has since been seen less often in live tournaments. According to his own statement, he only wants to play three to four tournaments a year. In August 2016, Holz was in Barcelona for the EPT's super high roller event , where he beat 77 other players for a prize of 1.3 million euros. In the run-up to the final table of the main event of the WSOP 2016 , Holz was the coach of Belgian poker player Kenny Hallaert , who finished sixth.

Overall, Holz won tournament prize money of over 16 million US dollars in 2016, more than any other player. As of March 2016, it was among the top ten in the live poker world rankings and led them from June 15, 2016. This makes Holz the only player to top both the live and online poker world rankings. With 23 consecutive weeks at the top, on November 16, 2016, he improved Steve O'Dwyer's previous record , which is now held by Alex Foxen . On January 11, 2017, wood was ousted by David Peters after 30 weeks in a row . Holz also led the ranking of the GPI Player of the Year for a long time and was only relegated to second place by Peters at the end of December 2016. From April to November 2016 , Holz played as part of LA Sunset in the Global Poker League and made it to the playoffs with his team.

At the end of January 2017, Holz reached two final tables at the Aussie Millions : he finished fifth in the main event for the equivalent of $ 250,000 , and he finished third in the A $ 100,000 Challenge for a further $ 265,000. At the Super High Roller Event of the PokerStars Championship (PSC) in Macau at the beginning of April 2017, Holz finished second behind Steve O'Dwyer for the equivalent of more than 850,000 US dollars. At the end of April 2017, Holz came fourth at the PSC's Eight Max Shot Clock in Monte-Carlo for around 320,000 euros and just a few days later won the Hyper Turbo Eight Max for just under 60,000 euros. At the end of May 2017, Holz played the Super High Roller Bowl at the Aria Resort & Casino, for which he had already secured a place in February 2017. In the most expensive poker tournament of the year with a buy-in of US $ 300,000, he was eliminated in one hand against Kevin Hart on the second day of the tournament . On May 30 and 31, 2017, Holz won the Aria Super High Roller twice in a row , securing almost 750,000 US dollars. In mid-July 2017, he also won the opening tournament of the Triton Super High Roller Series in Budva, Montenegro, and received a prize of just under 450,000 US dollars. In mid-September 2017, Holz was for the first edition of the Poker Masters at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, where he played each of the five tournaments. At the second event of the series, he finished second behind Steffen Sontheimer for 550,000 US dollars. With this, Holz, who at the time had tournament revenues of almost 24 million US dollars, overtook Phil Ivey in the All Time Money List . At the fifth event , Holz finished third behind fellow countrymen Sontheimer and Christian Christner for 504,000 US dollars. With more than a million US dollars in prize money, he finished third in the race for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket ™ . In mid-October 2017, Holz finished second behind John Juanda at the main event of the Triton Super High Roller Series in Macau for the equivalent of more than 2 million US dollars. Overall, Holz's tournament revenue in 2017 was just under 6.5 million US dollars.

At the beginning of 2018, Holz played at several super high roller events in the live tournament series of his then sponsor partypoker and in March 2018 bought seven times more than any other player in the Super High Roller Bowl China in Macau. For the Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas at the end of May 2018, Holz was unable to get a place in the player's lottery on March 21, 2018 and was subsequently nominated by the organizers as a so-called "VIP player". Holz was eliminated on the second day of the tournament in a large pot against eventual winner Justin Bonomo . At the 2018 WSOP , Holz finished ninth in the $ 100,000 high roller event for almost $ 250,000 in prize money. He also played the most expensive event on the tournament schedule, the Big One for One Drop with a buy-in of one million US dollars. There Holz reached the final table and finished second for his highest cash prize to date of 6 million US dollars, which made him jump past Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Colman to fourth on the All Time Money List . In mid-November 2018, Holz achieved his last live money placement to date at a tournament of the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party in the Bahamas . At the beginning of August 2019, Holz played the Triton Million for Charity in London , which, with a buy-in of one million  British pounds, was the most expensive poker tournament in the world to date. He was eliminated in one hand against Dan Smith on the first day of the tournament .

Holz is CEO of the company Primed , which was founded at the end of 2016 and is based in the Viennese district of Innere Stadt . The company launched its first project, the Primed Mind app , at the end of May 2017 . The content of the app comes from mental trainer Elliot Roe and is intended to support users in the implementation of personal goals. Holz works closely with Roe, whose coaching Scott Blumstein also benefited from before his WSOP final table in mid-July 2017. Blumstein won the main event of the WSOP 2017 and had a print with the logo of Primed Mind on the final table . On September 24, 2017, Holz presented its company at the Bits & Pretzels founders' conference in Munich . The Primed Kids app , which children between the ages of four and eight can use to learn English was planned for November 2018 .

In July 2018, Holz and several other poker players such as Stefan Schillhabel and Steffen Sontheimer founded an e-sports team called No Limit Gaming . The aim of the project is to transfer successes and experiences from poker to the e-sports sector.

On May 31, 2019, he and the Austrian poker player Matthias Eibinger opened the website Pokercode.com , on which they sell a poker course to improve their own poker game.
