history

In September 2014 the first start-up event took place as breakfast, which was brought to life by Andreas Bruckschlögl and Bernd Storm van's Gravesande. Felix Haas has been supporting the team as the third co-host since January 2015 and the trio expanded the event from now on as "Bits & Pretzels".

In May 2019 Britta Weddeling, previously a correspondent for Handelsblatt from Silicon Valley, was announced as "Editor-In-Chief" of Bits & Pretzels.

At the first event in September 2014, there was space for 1,400 guests in the ballroom of the Löwenbraukeller in Munich. The first speakers included the founders of Qype , mydealz , Stylight and Amiando . In addition, various startup pitches took place. The second Bits & Pretzels took place on January 16, 2015. This event had 1,800 participants. In addition to national speakers, international speakers were also present this time. The third Bits & Pretzels took place from September 27 to 29, 2015 and a total of around 3,500 guests came together. Instead of breakfast, this event was held for the first time as a new edition in the form of a three-day festival. The last day of the conference ended in the Schottenhamel tent at the Oktoberfest. The speakers included the CEO of Adidas Herbert Hainer and Niklas Östberg, CEO of Delivery Hero .

From September 25 to 27, 2016, over 5000 participants came together for the fourth “Bits & Pretzels” edition for the three-day event. procedure

At Bits & Pretzels, founders of national and international companies tell their success stories and give tips. On the first two days of the conference in the International Congress Center in Munich , keynotes, workshops, panel discussions, master classes and a startup competition are on the program. The speakers on the main stage wear traditional Bavarian costumes to combine Bavarian tradition with innovation. The third day of the event is all about networking, and so all participants gather again at the Oktoberfest. According to the “table captain” principle, the young founders and investors network with beer and chicken in the filled Oktoberfest tent. In addition, so-called “topic tables” were held for the first time in 2017, on which everything revolves around a specific topic. Since 2017, new focal points have been set with a stage on corporate innovation and a stage for investors. The topic of matchmaking was specifically strengthened on site with a specially designated area in order to better network the participants. In addition to the industry-related content, an entertainment program, including a. with comedians and bands, for a change. In 2015 the Bavarian comedian Harry G was on stage and in 2016 there was a live concert by the German band Sportfreunde Stiller . In 2017 the band Moop Mama played in the Oktoberfest tent. Implemented on a small scale in recent years, the Bits & Pretzels Startup Night took place for the first time in 2017, at which evening events throughout Munich could also be attended by non-“Bits & Pretzels” participants.
