Herbert Hainer

Herbert Hainer (born July 3, 1954 in Dornwang near Dingolfing ) is a German manager and sports official. From 2001 to 2016 he was CEO of Adidas AG . On November 15, 2019, he was elected President of FC Bayern Munich , succeeding Uli Hoeneß .

Career

Profession, study, sport

Before studying business administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Landshut , Hainer worked in the family butcher's shop. He completed his studies with a degree in business administration . Then he opened his own bar. His dream was to become a professional footballer. He stormed for FC Ottering , which even made it into the first round of the DFB Cup . When Hainer realized that he would not achieve his professional football goal, he became Marketing Manager for Germany at the consumer goods group Procter & Gamble in 1979 . In 1987 he moved to the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas Germany and held several positions of responsibility before being appointed CEO in March 2001.

From 2001 to 2016, Herbert Hainer was chairman of the four-member executive board of Adidas AG in Herzogenaurach , the second largest sporting goods manufacturer in the world with 110 subsidiaries. With more than 55,000 employees worldwide, the group generated sales of around 16.9 billion euros in 2015 . At Adidas he started as sales manager for bags, rackets and balls. After several intermediate positions as sales manager for Germany, he rose to the board of the stock corporation as managing director in 1997. From March 14, 2014 to September 8, 2014 he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FC Bayern München AG after his friend, Uli Hoeneß , resigned from his post.

Herbert Hainer is a member of the supervisory boards of Bayerische Versicherungsbank , Lufthansa and the board of management consultancy Accenture . Until 2011 he was also on the Engelhorn supervisory board . He is also chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG .

At the beginning of 2016 it was announced that Hainer would prematurely resign from his management board mandate at Adidas AG on September 30, 2016. The outgoing Henkel boss Kasper Rorsted became the new CEO .

President of FC Bayern Munich

On August 29, 2019, Uli Hoeneß announced that he would no longer stand for the election of the President of FC Bayern Munich in November of that year . The administrative advisory board of the club decided unanimously after detailed discussion to propose Herbert Hainer as a candidate for the office of president to the members of the club. At the annual general meeting on November 15, 2019, he was elected as the new president by 6,091 voters with 79 votes against and 36 abstentions.

family

Hainer is married and has a daughter. A second daughter died in 2006. His brother Walter Hainer was a professional footballer at TSV 1860 Munich , for whom he played three Bundesliga games as a sweeper.
