Between 1975 and 1979, the future management bought themselves out of the “Boston Safe Deposit and Trust” through an employee stock option program, after which “strategy” was defined as the consulting focus and the Boston Consulting Group was founded.

In 1973, Bill Bain and other employees left BCG and founded the management consultancy Bain & Company .

In 1998 BCG founded the "Strategy Institute". The aim was to further develop the company's strategic knowledge.
