Katharina Borchert

Katharina Borchert (* 10. October 1972 in Wattenscheid ) is a German journalist and since January 2016 the Board of Directors of the Mozilla Corporation as Chief Innovation Officer for the future direction of the Mozilla responsible products. Before that, she had been Managing Director at Spiegel Online since 2010 .

Life

The daughter of the Federal Minister of Agriculture Jochen Borchert (CDU) studied law and journalism at the universities of Hamburg and Lausanne .

As a freelance author, Borchert wrote for FAZ , Die Welt and c't, among others . In 2002 she started her own blog Lyssas Lounge , which she ran until 2007. In mid-2006 she became the online editor-in-chief of the Essen WAZ media group . In this position she developed the concept for the regional portal DerWesten.de . In 2007 she was promoted to managing director of WAZ NewMedia GmbH , in 2008 she was appointed to the board of directors of the WAZ media group and was thus responsible for the media group's entire online business.

In 2010 Borchert became managing director of Spiegel Online . After the former publishing director of Der Spiegel magazine , Fried von Bismarck, left the German Press Council in 2011 , Borchert became his successor.

Borchert has been on the Board of Directors of Mozilla Corporation since the end of March 2014 . In October 2015 it was announced that from January 2016 she would be responsible there as Chief Innovation Officer for "recognizing and [assigning] future opportunities". Her successor as managing director of Spiegel Online was Jesper Doub.

Awards

In March 2011 she was named a member of the “Young Global Leaders” 2011 (YGL) by the World Economic Forum .

As part of the Science Year 2014 initiative The Digital Society of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Society for Information Technology, she was honored with the German Digital Heads award, which is given to those "who drive digital development in Germany with their ideas and projects" .
