Igor Kurganov ( Russian Игорь Курганов ; English transcription Igor Kurganov ; born May 5, 1988 in Leningrad ) is a professional Russian - German poker player .

Personal

Kurganow has been in a relationship with English poker player Liv Boeree since March 2014 . Together with her and the German poker player Philipp Gruissem , he founded the charity project Raising for Effective Giving at the beginning of July 2014, which is based on the principles of effective altruism . Kurganow lived in Munich for a time and now in London .

Kurganov plays online under the nickname lechuckpoker . From February 2017 to November 2019 he was a member of Team PokerStars , for which he played under the nickname IgorKurganov . Since 2009 he has also been taking part in renowned live tournaments .

Kurganow cashed in for the first time at a main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in early January 2010 as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas and finished 119th for prize money of 20,000 US dollars . At the end of April 2012, he won the high roller tournament as part of the EPT Grand Final in Monte-Carlo and received a prize of over one million euros . At the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne in spring 2013, Kurganow reached the final table of the A $ 100,000 Challenge and A $ 250,000 Challenge for prizes of over 1.1 million Australian dollars and then won the A $ 25,000 Challenge with a prize money of 275,000 Australian dollars. At the beginning of June 2013 he came in sixth place at the main event of the GuangDong Asia Millions for the equivalent of over one million US dollars in prize money. At the end of June 2013 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and finished eleventh in a tournament in No Limit Hold'em for over 70,000 US dollars. At the end of April 2014, Kurganow made it into the money again at the super high roller event of the Grand Finals in Monte-Carlo and finished the tournament in third place for his largest prize money to date of over 1.1 million euros. A year later he finished fourth in the same tournament for almost 630,000 euros. At the 2017 WSOP , Kurganow won the Tag Team Championship together with Boeree and with it his first bracelet as well as a combined prize money of around 270,000 US dollars. The couple donated half of this prize money to Raising for Effective Giving . At the PokerStars Championship in Barcelona in August 2017 , Kurganow won the Super High Roller with a prize of over one million euros. In mid-July 2018, he finished fifth in the $ 50,000 high roller event of the 2018 WSOP for around $ 380,000 in prize money. In December 2018, Kurganow took sixth place at the Super High Roller Bowl at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, endowed with $ 756,000. In early June 2019, he reached the final table at the same place at the main event of the World Poker Tour and finished second for around $ 285,000. At the 2019 WSOP , Kurganov finished fourth in the $ 100,000 high roller event and received just under $ 850,000.

Overall, Kurganov has earned more than 18.5 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments , making him the most successful Russian poker player . From April to November 2016 he played as part of the London Royals in the Global Poker League and made it to the playoffs with his team.
