Steven Silverman (born June 10, 1988 in Derwood , Maryland ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Silverman grew up in Derwood with an older brother . He began studying mathematics at the University of Maryland , but dropped out. He later returned to university with degrees in biochemistry and nutritional science . Silverman lives in Washington, DC

Poker career

Silverman learned poker at summer camp at the age of 14 and began playing online poker . After dropping out of his first degree, he began playing local cash game rounds with Greg Merson . He also occasionally visited the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona , New York State , where he befriended other young players such as Christian Harder and Randal Flowers . From September 2006 to May 2015, Silverman played on the online poker platforms PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker , Bodog , UltimateBet and Absolute Poker under the nickname Zugwat . During this time he won prize money of almost 1.5 million US dollars with tournament poker . Since 2007 Silverman has also participated in renowned live tournaments.

At the beginning of November 2007, he finished tenth at the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Niagara Falls, which was worth around 65,000 Canadian dollars . Silverman finished third at the Main Event of the Latin American Poker Tour in San José in May 2008 for more than $ 100,000. In May 2009 he finished the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Monte-Carlo in twelfth place, which was paid for with 97,000 euros . In June 2012 Silverman was the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas successful and came first in a Shootout tournament of the variant No-Limit Hold'em in the money. He then reached the final table at a Pot Limit Omaha event and finished third for around $ 300,000. In mid-May 2013, Silverman prevailed at the EPT High Roller in Monte-Carlo and secured his highest prize money to date of over 775,000 euros thanks to a deal with two other players. In late August 2013, he also won the WPT Alpha8 event in Hollywood , Florida for a prize of nearly $ 900,000. Silverman's last live cash placement to date was at the 2015 WSOP .

In total, Silverman has earned more than $ 3 million in poker live tournaments.
