Full Tilt Poker is an online poker room based on Alderney . He is best known for Team Full Tilt , which consisted of many well-known professional poker players. After PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker was the second largest virtual poker room in the world.

On June 29, 2011, Full Tilt Poker was suspended by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC). Thus, their customers were not allowed to deposit or withdraw money. One of the reasons Full Tilt Poker 's license was revoked was on April 15, 2011, what is known in the poker world as Black Friday. Furthermore, the operating companies of Full Tilt Poker should not have been financially run under the AGCC regulations.

On April 16, 2011, Full Tilt Poker's online portal, along with similar offers such as PokerStars , Absolute Poker and UltimateBet, was temporarily closed by the FBI for tax evasion and money laundering . Full Tilt Poker and 11 responsible managers are suspected of running a worldwide fraud system.

Full Tilt Poker has been online again since November 6, 2012 , but under a new operator, former competitor and online poker room giant PokerStars .

General

The site opened in June 2004. Full Tilt signed many professional poker players to play exclusively on Full Tilt. Under the motto "Learn, chat and play with the pros" ("Learn, chat and play with the professionals") it was advertised that players should play poker together with professionals. Furthermore, hints and tips were published on the site under the category "Tips from the Pros", which the professional players themselves wrote.

In addition to the most widespread poker variant Texas Hold'em , Omaha High , Omaha Hi-Lo , Razz , Seven Card Stud , Stud Hi-Lo and HORSE were also offered.

US ban on online gambling

After the United States government passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) in September 2006 , the legal situation for online poker providers changed. This law prohibits US banks from making transfers to online casinos, so US players cannot make any further deposits with gambling providers. As a result of this law, many well-known poker sites (including PartyPoker , Pacific Poker and Paradise Poker ) and online casinos closed their doors to US users. However, other sites ( Bodog , PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker) continued to accept American players as they do not consider poker a game of chance. In their opinion, poker is a game that requires experience and skill. Together with the PPA (Poker Players Alliance), these poker rooms want to achieve a change in the law, especially since other betting games classified as gambling ( horse racing , online lotteries ) are not affected by this law.

Promotional activities

Full Tilt Poker ran large media campaigns, particularly in the United States, to attract new players. In addition to the bonuses for initial registration that are customary in the industry, these campaigns are mainly based on the company concept "Learn, chat and play with the pros". Full Tilt also sponsors various poker shows on television : Learn from the Pros , Poker Championship at Red Rock , Poker After Dark and Poker Equalizer . With the publication of the Safe Port Act, the company initially switched to advertising for the play money site FullTiltPoker.net, but soon resumed the campaign for the main page FullTiltPoker.com. The new advertising campaigns are clearly directed against the Safe Port Act and aim to highlight the strategic aspect in poker.

Allegations of money laundering, illegal gambling and bank fraud

On April 15, 2011, referred to as Black Friday in the poker media , the three largest poker portals in the USA, including Full Tilt Poker, were banned by the FBI for several days. The poker platforms are accused of money laundering, illegal gambling and bank fraud. The legal basis for this was the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA), which prohibits online gambling in the USA.

Full Tilt Poker resumed operations for players outside the United States until the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) revoked its gambling license shortly thereafter . Investigations by the US judiciary revealed that with US $ 390 million in customer deposits, including 150 million from US players, only US $ 60 million was available in bank accounts. New York City Attorney Preet Bharara accused Full Tilt Poker of running a worldwide Ponzi scheme on September 20, 2011 . From 2007 to 2011, approximately $ 444 million was reported to have been paid out to the board of directors and company owners from customer deposits . Chris Ferguson's attorney Ian Imrich denied the allegation of a Ponzi scheme and instead spoke of mismanagement.

The CEO of Full Tilt Poker, Raymond Bitar, faced the authorities and the FBI was 2 July 2012 at John F. Kennedy International Airport arrested. Bitar faces up to 145 years in prison. Payment Manager Nelson Burtnick pleaded guilty to bank fraud in September 2012. US banks of depositing players were deliberately misled by Full Tilt Poker into making payments in spite of the gambling ban.

Debt settlement & relaunch

On October 8, 2012, Full Tilt Poker announced that it would be back online on November 6, 2012. According to its own information, the new owner of the site will be Rational Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. who also runs former competitor PokerStars . In addition, the new operators want to pay $ 184 million in compensation to all those players who have had their funds on the site frozen by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) after their gaming license was revoked. However, this only applies to players outside the US. The online poker room got the new license from the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission, to which PokerStars is also licensed.

Licensing for players from France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Belgium and Estonia is not planned. Additionally, real money gaming and account activity will not be available to US players.

As the first Full Tilt Pro after the takeover, Gus Hansen was taken back under contract, who has meanwhile also been followed by Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Tom "durrrr" Dwan .
