Career

Chiu lost 35% of his hearing due to an illness in his childhood. He himself says that this led to developing the ability to read his opponents while playing poker, as he had to concentrate harder to compensate for the hearing loss.

Chiu was first to become a restaurant owner in Colorado , but then took a job as a dealer and later became a tournament specialist. He gained great prestige when he won a Limit Hold'em variant at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas in 1996. At the main event he was tenth in the same year and 55th in 2003 . With five bracelets he is one of the most successful players at the WSOP. Chiu regularly takes part in the World Poker Tour (WPT) and made it to the final table twice. At the first season's Celebrity Invitational , he finished third behind Layne Flack and LA Lakers owner Jerry Buss . In April 2008, Chiu sat in the finale of the sixth season of the World Poker Tour in the heads-up against the powerful 5: 1 chip lead Gus Hansen through and won his first WPT title and a prize money of just under 3.5 million US Dollar .

Chiu was sponsored by the online poker room Full Tilt Poker as a Full Tilt Pro . His winnings from official live poker tournaments are over $ 8 million.
