Gustav "Gus" Hansen (born February 13, 1974 near Copenhagen as Gustav Jacobsen ) is a professional Danish poker player .

Hansen has earned more than ten million US dollars with poker in live tournaments , making him the second most successful Danish poker player after Peter Eastgate . He won three open Main Event of the World Poker Tour , 2007, the Main Event of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship and in September 2010, a bracelet of the World Series of Poker . As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Hansen was named as one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Personal

Before becoming a professional poker player in 1997, Hansen successfully played backgammon and tennis . In 2000 he moved to New York City to earn money as a professional backgammon player. There he realized, however, that he is more interested in poker. Hansen lives in Monte-Carlo .

He states that he learned English as a teenager by listening to a Pink Floyd album. The People Magazine named him in 2004 to the Sexiest Poker Player .

Poker career

Career

Hansen started playing poker in 1993 when he was an exchange student at the University of Santa Cruz in California . He is known for his aggressive style of play and his high betting frequency.

Hansen is one of six players who have won at least three open main events of the World Poker Tour (WPT), he won them in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He also won the first WPT Bad Boys of Poker in April 2003 . In 2004 he was inducted into the WPT Walk of Fame . Hansen was successful for the first time in May 2004 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas and reached the prize money at the main event . He won the first edition of one million in February 2005 US dollars doped Poker Superstars and beat off some of the most famous poker players in the world through. In mid-September 2005 he sat at the final table at the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Barcelona and finished fifth, worth almost 80,000 euros . In September 2006, Hansen won the London All Star Challenge for more than £ 50,000 in prize money . In 2006 Hansen was also a member and captain of the winning Danish team at the PartyPoker.com Football & Poker Legends Cup . His teammates were Theo Jørgensen and Kim Christofte . At the WPT Main Event at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in April 2008, Hansen missed his fourth WPT title, but took second place and received the highest cash prize of his poker career to date of more than $ 1.7 million. In the heads-up he was defeated by David Chiu . At the 2007 WSOP Main Event , Hansen finished 61st for more than $ 150,000. In the same year he also just missed the final table in tenth place at the main event of the first World Series of Poker Europe in London . He won his first bracelet at the WSOP Europe 2010 in London . He prevailed at a heads-up event in the decisive third heads-up match with 4 4 against Jim Collopy's K 4 .
