The Hotel Bellagio is a luxury hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas in the US state of Nevada . It belongs to the Leading Hotels of the World group and is one of the largest hotels in the world . The owner is the MGM Resorts International Group, which built the resort on the site of the former The Dunes .

history

The Bellagio was designed by entrepreneur and casino operator Steve Wynn and built by his company Mirage Resorts . The start of construction in May 1996 was preceded by the demolition of the hotel The Dunes, which had been on the property until then, in October 1993. The facility was opened on October 15, 1998. In 2000, Mirage Resorts and MGM Grand Inc. merged to form MGM Mirage , which has again been operating as MGM Resorts International since 2010 ; The Bellagio is now owned by some of the most famous Las Vegas hotels (including Mandalay Bay , MGM Grand , Mirage and New York-New York ). The Bellagio employs around 8,000 people.

The Bellagio was the main location for the films Ocean's Eleven (2001) and Ocean's 13 (2007). Most of the scenes were shot on location at the hotel; the fountain fountains also appear at the end of the two films (but not in the second part of the film series).

In 2006 the casino area was redesigned, and in 2011 all rooms in the main tower were renovated .

The hotel's facility is modeled on the Italian landscape of Lake Como and is named after the town of Bellagio located there . The hotel complex includes a 3.2 hectare artificial lake, the “Via Bellagio” shopping mall, a casino and two wedding chapels . When it opened in 1998, the hotel had 3,015 rooms in the 36-storey Main Tower (151 m), and in 2004 the construction of the 33-storey Spa Tower (119 m) to the south added 935 rooms and suites. The Bellagio Towers are one of the Leading Hotels of the World and have received the well-known AAA Five Diamond Award twelve times in a row (2000–2012) . Two of the restaurants in the complex, Le Cirque and Picasso , also bear this award. In addition, the restaurants Picasso (two stars) and Le Cirque and Michael Mina (each one star) received awards from the Michelin Guide . The Cirque du Soleil is guest with the water show O in a specially built theater in the hotel including a pool.

Part of the facility is also the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art , an art gallery with changing exhibitions, as well as a winter garden , in which, depending on the season, elaborately designed garden shows are presented.

The hotel is best known for the fountains ( Fountains of Bellagio ), a computer-controlled water show . There is also an installation of over 1200 nozzles and around 4000 lamps in the lake in front of the hotel. Some of the nozzles shoot water over 140 meters high, others are movable and can make their jet "dance". The system is controlled fully automatically. Every day between 3 p.m. and midnight, the Fountains present their show several times an hour, which is choreographed to changing pieces of music. There are about 30 different pieces in the repertoire, including a. The Pink Panther Theme by Henry Mancini and All Night Long by Lionel Richie . The lake is fed by a groundwater source which was built long before the hotel was built and which was once used to irrigate the Dunes golf course on the site. The system was built by the American company WET , which specializes in the construction of such water features .

The Bellagio is also home to the legendary Bobby's Room , where the so-called Big Game takes place. Here the wealthiest poker players play for the highest stakes available. To gain entry, one must be ready to play for at least $ 20,000 (minimum buy-in).
