The Mirage is a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip , which is currently owned by MGM Resorts International is located.

history

The Mirage was designed by entrepreneur Steve Wynn and opened on November 22, 1989. With construction costs of $ 630 million, it was the most expensive hotel-casino project in the history of the city when it opened. The hotel was the first mega-resort by today's standards and, together with the Bally’s, is considered to be one of the most important impulse projects in the development of today's appearance of Las Vegas.

From February 1990 to October 3, 2003, Siegfried & Roy performed their show at the Siegfried & Roy Theater and gave 5,750 performances, which were attended by 10.5 million viewers. The Mirage grossed more than $ 1.5 billion on the show. Even today the white tigers and lions as well as the dolphins of Siegfried & Roy can be seen in the hotel's own Secret Garden . In the former Siegfried & Roy Theater since 2006 running the show Love of Cirque du Soleil with music of the Beatles .

The entire hotel complex is laid out in the style of a tropical rain forest with lush vegetation and waterfalls. The main building houses 3,044 rooms over 30 floors. The distinctive golden windows are colored by real gold dust , which was worked into the panes during the tinting process. The hotel has a large tropical pool area, numerous restaurants and a casino on around 9,000 m².

When dusk falls, an artificial volcanic eruption regularly takes place in the evening hours . After the opening of the Hotel Bellagio , the technology of the show was revised by the company WET , which also built the famous Fountains of Bellagio , in order to make the show more spectacular.

The Mirage is connected to the Treasure Island Las Vegas hotel by an elevated railway .
