Forum Shops . An antique style shopping center within the hotel complex

The Caesars Palace is a hotel in Paradise in the Las Vegas area in the US state of Nevada . It is built in the style of an ancient Roman palace ; the name is derived from Gaius Iulius Caesar , the ruler of ancient Rome , and is supposed to reflect its splendor .

The hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard has 3,960 guest rooms and suites in six room towers. Columns , statues and water fountains shape the appearance of the complex. The casino integrated in the hotel occupies an area of around 15,000 square meters. The Forum Shops , a large shopping center with exclusive shops and a spacious pool and garden area are also part of the complex.

history

1962 was Jay Sarno a loan of 10.6 million US $ from the Central States Pension Fund of the Teamsters and built from 1962 to 1965 a hotel with attached casino. It opened on August 5, 1966. One year after the opening of the hotel became the hotel by motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel a stir when he is severely injured after he jumped in the presence of numerous spectators on the fountain along the right of way of Caesars Palace, but crashed on landing.

In 1962 the construction of the Roman Tower began , the first hotel tower in the complex with 680 rooms on 14 floors. The semicircular building was centered behind the main entrance and the fountain-lined driveway. In 1970, the hotel was expanded to include the rectangular Centurion Tower , again with 14 floors, with 222 rooms. The rounded Roman Tower was later extended by an oppositely curved curve. The Forum Tower with 22 floors was added in 1979. On October 17, 1981 and September 25, 1982, the Las Vegas Grand Prix took place on the parking lot . The winners of the Formula 1 races were Alan Jones (1981) and Michele Alboreto (1982). Since the race track in the parking lot of Caesars Palace was very uneven, the Grand Prix only took place twice in the greater Las Vegas area.

Caesars Palace hosted many famous boxing matches in the 1980s before being converted from a casino-only hotel to a family-friendly entertainment complex in the 1990s. All major hotels in the greater Las Vegas area have made this change. Even today, however, there are still boxing matches, especially in the outdoor area "Thomas and Mack Arena". In 1987, scenes from the 1988 Oscar-winning film Rain Man with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in the leading roles were filmed at Caesars Palace.

In 1997 the Palace Tower was built. For the first time, its facade was designed in the Roman-inspired style. The hotel towers that had been erected by then managed without them. In the same year, the Forum Shops , which opened in 1992 , as well as the casino and conference areas were expanded and the pool and gardens, which were also designed in Roman style, were built. In the year 2000, antique style elements were retrofitted to all previously built parts to match the newly built hotel parts.

In 2003 the Colosseum was opened, a modern theater building with over 4000 seats, which is externally modeled on the ancient Colosseum in Rome. Many artists have made guest appearances at Caesars Palace over the years, including Frank Sinatra , Liberace and David Copperfield . Since March 2003, Cher , Celine Dion , Elton John and Shania Twain have alternated on the stage of the Colosseum . The “Pussycat Dolls Lounge” was also opened for the Pussycat Dolls , in which they also performed.

In 2004, the Forum Shops were expanded to their current size with a three-storey extension facing the Strip. The well-known spiral escalators are also located in this part of the building. In 2005 the Augustus Tower (35 floors, 949 rooms) and the new hotel lobby were opened. In the same year, the French 3-star chef Guy Savoy opened a restaurant in Caesars Palace.

In 2008 the casino served as a film set for the hit hit movie Hangover . In this, Alan (Zach Galifianakis) asks the receptionist whether Caesar really lived in Caesars Palace. In 2013 the hotel was used again as a film set in Hangover 3 .

The hotel's last new building to date is the Octavius Tower and opened in 2011. The Caesars is one of the few hotels in the greater Las Vegas area that has not torn down any parts of the building or (as is usual there) blown up since it opened, but instead has been repeatedly expanded and remodeled.

The independently operated boutique hotel Nobu Hotel has been located in the former Centurion Tower des Caesars since 2013 .

Ownership

After several changes of ownership, the Caesars Palace has belonged to Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. since 2005. The Harrah's Group has taken over Caesars Entertainment, Inc. (until 2003 Park Place Entertainment Corporation ), a group with 55,000 employees that operates almost 30 hotel casinos worldwide. Since 2010, the entire company has appeared again as Caesars Entertainment .

In Las Vegas, the Bally’s , Flamingo and Paris hotels belong to the group. There are other Caesars hotels in the United States, such as Atlantic City , New Jersey .
