Nicholas "Nick" Schulman (born September 18, 1984 in New York City , New York ) is a professional American poker player and commentator. He is nicknamed The Takeover and three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker , as well as two-time champions of the World Poker Tour .

Personal

Schulman grew up in the New York borough of Manhattan . He was a good student until he moved to high school ; there he suffered from anxiety attacks. When he was 15, he discovered the bars in Manhattan and started playing pool instead of going to school. After an argument with his parents, Schulman moved in with a billiard player friend at the age of 16. Today he lives in Manhattan again.

Poker career

Schulman has been participating in prestigious live poker tournaments since 2005.

In his first major live tournament, the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Mashantucket in November 2005 , Schulman secured victory and received a prize of more than two million US dollars . In July 2006 he was the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas successful and placed at two tournaments of the variant No-Limit Hold'em in the money. In mid-November 2007, Schulman sat again at the final table of the WPT Main Event in Mashantucket and took second place for more than $ 850,000 in prize money. In June 2009 he won a tournament in No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw as part of the WSOP , which brought him around $ 280,000 and his first bracelet . In April 2010, Schulman placed in Sanremo and Monte-Carlo twice in a row in the money at the main event of the European Poker Tour . In early January 2011, he finished fourth in the Super High Roller of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures (PCA) in the Bahamas for $ 400,000. At the 2012 WSOP , he won his second bracelet in a No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event and another $ 300,000 prize money. In early January 2013, Schulman finished third in the PCA Super High Roller for just under $ 750,000. At the 2013 WSOP , he finished eighth at the most expensive event on the tournament schedule, the High Roller for One Drop with a buy-in of $ 111,111, for just under $ 500,000. In mid-July 2016, he finished a tournament at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in second place and received prize money of over $ 550,000. In August 2017, Schulman won the Super High Roller at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood for $ 440,000. In mid-September 2017, he also won the opening tournament of the Poker Masters at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas with a prize of $ 918,000. In February 2019, Schulman prevailed at the eighth event of the US Poker Open and secured the grand prize of $ 270,000. At the 2019 WSOP , he won the Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship and received his third bracelet and the grand prize of more than $ 460,000. He then finished third in the series’s $ 100,000 high roller event for more than $ 1.2 million in prize money.

In total, Schulman has made more than $ 13 million in poker playing live tournaments . As a commentator he worked a. a. at the Super High Roller Bowl 2016 and 2017 . In late February 2018, Schulman was named Broadcaster of the Year 2017 at the American Poker Awards in Los Angeles . He received the same award at the Global Poker Awards for 2019 in March 2020 .
